What's New for the Chevy Silverado 1500 in 2022?
A full-sized pickup with impressive capabilities and eye-catching style, the Silverado 1500 is a versatile truck that's powerful enough to serve as your primary work vehicle, but easy enough to drive and maneuver to make it appropriate for day-to-day driving as well. For 2022, the beloved model doesn't introduce any major redesigns or overhauls, but it does get a handful of noteworthy and exciting updates to be aware of, including:
- A streamlined menu of powertrain options, with the discontinuation of the previously available V6.
- A new off-road ready trim level, the Silverado 1500 ZR2 makes it splashy debut this year.
- The newly optional Chevrolet Super Cruise, an innovative self-automated driving feature, is available this year for the first time.
- The front fascia gets a design tweak, as well as refreshed design elements inside and out.
Performance
With the previously standard V6 engine now discontinued, the number of powertrains you can choose from to personalize your ride goes from five to four. The new lineup includes:
- A turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque (a slight bump up from 358 pound-feet on the 2021 model)
- A turbodiesel four-cylinder engine, which produces 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque
- A 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque
- A 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque
Which engine your particular Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with depends on the trim and preference you have. This truck can also tow up to 13,300 pounds and haul up to 2,300 pounds in payload capacity, depending on your configuration.
Regardless, however, of your choice in trims and power, you can look forward to pickup truck capability and genuine, legendary Chevy quality in every ride.

Performance
The engines available on a new Silverado 1500 are:
- The 4.3-liter V6
- The 5.3-liter V8
- The 2.7-liter turbocharged I4
- The 6.2-liter V8
- The 3.0-liter turbodiesel I6
Each engine has varying levels of performance, but all provide a decent towing capacity for the Silverado 1500. The Silverado also comes with various transmissions based on the engines. The transmissions include a 6-speed automatic transmission, 8-speed automatic transmission and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The various engines and transmissions make it difficult to estimate an exact gas mileage for the Silverado 1500, but you can expect to get around 20 mpg in the city and 25-26 mpg on the highway. Of course, these numbers vary depending on the powertrain you choose, with the turbodiesel engine getting the best mileage.
Technology
The technology features that are standard and available on the new Silverado 1500 include:
- Apple CarPlay®
- Android Auto™
- A 7- or 8-inch touchscreen
- Available Bose® Premium Audio System
- Available Wireless charging
All these technologies are excellent additions to your drive. Certain trims have upgrades such as a larger touchscreen, but each Silverado 1500 will provide some impressive features.
Interior
The interior of the new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 provides both luxury and comfort. The interior includes many technology features, and, depending on the choice of cab, it can seat up to six individuals. You can choose between the regular cab, double cab and crew cab depending on your needs.
Safety
The safety features included in the Silverado 1500 are:
- Forward-collision warning
- Automated emergency braking
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Rear-cross traffic alert
- Lane-departure warning
- Lane-keeping assist
All these safety features make the Silverado 1500 an incredibly safe vehicle for yourself and any passengers that are in your vehicle.
The forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking work in tandem to help you avoid potential collisions. If there is an abrupt stop by a vehicle in front of you, or you don't notice an obstacle in front of your vehicle, the forward-collision warning identifies it. That warning alerts the vehicle and can trigger the automated emergency braking, which applies the brakes if you can't react in time.
The blind-spot monitor allows you to identify if there are any vehicles in your blind spots, which is particularly helpful when you're driving on the highway. The blind-spot monitor allows you to change lanes comfortably knowing that there is not a vehicle in your blind-spot. The rear-cross traffic alert works like the blind-spot monitor, but it identifies any obstacles passing behind you as you're backing up. This can come in handy when you are backing out of a parking spot and are not able to see past the cars on either side of you.
The lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist is great for staying in your lane while you are driving. If you happen to drift out of your lane unintentionally, these features can help you get back on track quickly. Not only will it alert you that you are drifting, but the vehicle will also assist you in steering back into your lane.
